(Undated) — Local food banks are launching emergency fundraising. The Great Plains Food Bank aims to raise enough money to distribute an additional one million pounds of food. The food bank said demand is surging as federal SNAP benefits are not being given out for the month of November until the government shutdown ends. The Food Bank’s CEO said the network of over 196 pantries are already serving a record number of people. It will be prioritizing fruits, vegetables, and proteins while expanding its mobile food pantry and pop-up distributions in the areas hit the hardest.
