(Pierre, SD) — Lawmakers say South Dakotans need assurances the state is fixing the issues that led to a major government network outage in August. Officials told a legislative committee the failure was caused by mislabeled wiring in a Department of Transportation server room in Pierre. The mistake destroyed an 80-thousand-dollar network switch and its backup — and took down key state systems for nearly two business days. The state now plans to relabel wiring, improve redundancy and strengthen backup power for critical services.
