(Undated) — The University of Minnesota researchers are testing drones to fight wildfires. The aerial robotic team hopes to examine smoke patterns, the team hopes the swarm of drones will be able to predict fire behavior. Their drones use AI to detect and track wildfires as climate change is expected to make wildfires. One researcher said “The big picture is to one day understand where the wildfires go, how they behave and to perform large scale surveillance of wildfires.” Another team member said, “understanding the behavior of particles like embers can help firefighters prevent wildfires from spreading.”
