(Washington DC) — John Thune is continuing to reject President Trump’s call to do away with the Senate’s filibuster rule. The rule effective requires 60 votes for passage on most matters and the inability to receive that number on the pending continuing resolution bill has resulted in the current federal government shutdown. The president renewed his call to change the senate rules on Wednesday with Thune — the Senate Majority Leader and South Dakota Senator — saying “it’s just not happening.”
