Cass County authorities have identified the woman killed in a shooting Wednesday in Horace as 23-year-old Sakeena Khaadi.
Sheriff Jesse Jahner says Khaadi was found in a hallway of the Carlson Place Apartments with a gunshot wound, and despite life-saving efforts, she died at the scene.
Her boyfriend, 21-year-old Derrick Lobbo, was detained nearby minutes later. He is currently being held on allegations of reckless endangerment and child neglect, after deputies also found a 2-year-old child near a firearm in the apartment.
Cass County State’s Attorney Kim Hegvik says formal charges are expected, but prosecutors are still reviewing the case. Lobbo is anticipated to appear before a judge as early as Friday.
The sheriff says the investigation remains active and ongoing.
