(Rapid City, SD) — It appears Governor Larry Rhoden is entering the race to keep his job. A listing on Eventbrite says he’ll make a “special announcement” in Rapid City next Tuesday. State Senator Arch Beal told The Argus Leader, “As far as I can say, he’s running.” Rhoden would become the fourth Republican to announce an election bid for governor, joining U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson, House Speaker Jon Hansen and Aberdeen businessman Toby Doeden. Rhoden became South Dakota’s 34th governor in January when Kristi Noem stepped down.
