(Rapid City, SD) — Violent crime is down Pennington County. The sheriff’s office has released third-quarter numbers that show there were five fewer violent crimes from the same period last year. For the year, violent crime is down 33 percent in the county. On the flipside, motor vehicle theft has increased 41 percent in 2025. There are mixed results regarding drug use as the number of overdoses increased slightly in the third quarter, but fewer of them were fatal.
