(Bismarck, ND) — The North Dakota Department of Agriculture and State Veterinarian Doctor Ethan Andress is sharing a statement to help guide horse owners after an Equine Herpesvirus outbreak. Dr. Andress said outbreaks in Texas and Oklahoma serve as a reminder of the “potential disease risks associated with large commingling equine events.” He also encouraged anyone with horses that have traveled to those states, or other equine events where exposure may have occurred, to contact his office directly. Dr. Andress said they’ll provide some guidance about isolation and monitoring. His statement comes after several horses in Texas and Oklahoma tested positive for EHV after barrel racing and rodeo competitions.
