(Bismarck, ND) — American Public Education Foundation is giving North Dakota a B grade on its financial literacy. That’s an increase from its 2023 grade, which was a C. State School Superintendent Levi Backmeier says through the “Smart with Money” initiative, which launched in April 2024, the state government has set a goal of having North Dakota rated as the nation’s most financially literate state by 2027. Seventeen states received an A, and North Dakota joins 21 other states with a B. According to the report, the state “must make the high school financial literacy requirement a stand-alone course in order to raise its grade to an A.”
