(Bismarck, ND) — North Dakota’s application for limiting unhealthy foods that can be bought with SNAPS is being approved. The U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins approved the application yesterday in North Dakota, as well as five other states, including Hawaii, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. The SNAP waiver encourages North Dakotans to make more nutritious food choices, limiting the use of SNAP to purchase things like soft drinks, energy drinks, cereal bars, candy and more. It’s part of the Make America Healthy Again initiative, President Donald Trump’s plans to improve the health of people throughout the country. The new restrictions will go into effect in September 2026.
