(Devils Lake, ND) — Altru Health System’s Acquisition of a hospital in Devils Lake has approval from the Vatican. Ownership of the CHI St. Alexius Health Hospital will transition from CommonSpirit Health to Altru on March 1st. The deal was first announced in June of 2024. CommonSpirit needed to have the hospital removed from a Catholic registry that could only be done through an office in Vatican City. Altru had originally planned to take over the hospital in the spring of 2025.
