Wildfire sparks near Keystone, Hwy 40

An evacuation alert has been lifted for parts of western Pennington County after a wildfire near Keystone.

Emergency managers say the “get set to go” status was lifted around 10 p.m. for the area north of Highway 40 between Playhouse Road and the Hayward Fire Station.

The fire, now called the Greyhound Fire, started Wednesday afternoon east of Keystone and has burned about 150 acres. It stretches roughly two miles along Highway 40 between Playhouse Road and Rushmore Ranch Road.

Officials report heavy smoke in the area, and Highway 40 remains closed. Fire crews continue to work the scene, and no evacuations have been ordered.
