A Rapid City teenager has been sentenced to probation

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A Rapid City teenager has been sentenced to probation after admitting he threatened employees of Epic Games, the company behind the popular video game Fortnite.

Nineteen-year-old Jayden Griffin pleaded guilty to threatening interstate commerce after sending messages warning he would kill Epic Games employees.

Griffin faced up to five years in prison, but prosecutors and defense attorneys jointly asked for probation, citing untreated mental health issues as a factor in the case.

Before sentencing, Griffin apologized in court, saying he deeply regretted causing fear.

A judge sentenced him to two years of probation and ordered him to complete 100 hours of community service.
