(Bismarck, ND) — A new North Dakota law is forcing health insurers to act in a timely fashion. Insurers would specifically be mandated to respond to prior authorization requests swiftly. Prior authorization is when a doctor seeking advance coverage approval of a medical treatment for a patient. The practice has become common for insurers but physicians and health advocacy groups say it can be burdensome and disruptive.
