(Pierre, SD) — Governor Larry Rhoden is signing a disaster declaration after a powerful windstorm caused major damage across western South Dakota. Winds topping 100 miles-per-hour hit in mid-December. Pennington, Custer, and Fall River counties were among the hardest hit. State officials say damage estimates now exceed the threshold needed for federal assistance. The governor says requesting FEMA help is the next step to make sure communities can fully rebuild.
