(Mitchell, SD) — Drought conditions are returning to parts of South Dakota after several months of limited moisture. The latest U.S Drought Monitor shows expanding dry areas across the southern and eastern parts of the state. Agriculture officials say the lack of snow this winter means less spring runoff to refill stock dams and dugouts. Nearly 40 percent of the state is now considered abnormally dry, and some farmers say conditions are worse than the monitor indicates.
