(Pierre, SD) — Landowners and advocates are pushing for more protection of property rights in the state. For the fourth straight year, advocates rallied in the capitol rotunda on Monday saying lawmakers should put citizens first. Attendees say this was the largest rally yet after starting as a small protest against a pipeline issue. Protesters are pushing for more legislation that bans eminent domain for private corporations. One of the organizers says he’s concerned about a bill that gives a 50-year tax break to AI companies hoping to build data centers in the state. He called the bill a “nonstarter for most of us here.”
