(Bismarck, ND) — Two children under ten are dead from the flu this year. Health officials say they’re the first childhood deaths from the virus since 2016. The North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services says more than five-thousand cases have been reported through January 3rd with more than 17-hundred reported during Christmas week. Hospitalizations have been climbing in recent years while data shows vaccination rates have been declining. About 25 percent of people in the state have gotten a flu shot this year, down from nearly 30 percent during the 2023-24 season.
