(Pierre, SD) — Politicians are reacting to the Governor Larry Rhoden’s first State of the State address. Democratic Representative Eric Emery says he thought the governor did a good job hitting on rural healthcare funding where in the past the topic was overlooked. Rhoden said the state is receiving 189-million in federal funding for its five-year plan to strengthen health care access in rural areas. Republican Representative Tony Randolph says he is considering Rhoden’s proposal to alleviate property tax and wonders if there could be a better way to shift the burden. The governor proposed a half-cent sales tax aimed to reduce taxes for owner-occupied properties.
