(Pierre, SD) — The next budget could use nearly 100-million dollars of the state’s rainy day fund. Under Governor Larry Rhoden’s current budget proposal, the South Dakota rainy day fund could shrink from 413-million to 315-million dollars. The money would be transferred to the state’s general fund. The majority of the budget goes toward Medicaid, while slightly less is allocated to K-through-twelve education. The state added about 169-million dollars to its rainy day fund last year, according to the Bureau of Finance and Management.
