Man Pleads To Lesser Charge In Roberts Street Stabbing Case

news

(Fargo, ND) — A man is taking a plea for aggravated assault over a stabbing incident last June. The plea deal was agreed upon before a Thursday morning hearing for 63-year-old Calvin Phillips. He agreed to serve five years in prison for aggravated assault after originally being charged with attempted murder. As the hearing began, Phillips’ defense attorney informed the court Phillips had changed his mind and they would need to put the trial back on the calendar. When prosecutors asked for a delayed start to the trial due to lost preparation time, Phillips changed his mind again and accepted the plea deal. He is accused of stabbing a man in an alley on Roberts Street just before 3 a.m. on June 8th.
