(Elgin, ND) — Lawmakers are considering a bill to save Jacobson Memorial Hospital Care Center in Elgin. The hospital has more than 100 employees but administrators say they’re in serious financial trouble. Sen. Donald Schaible from Mott is proposing a bill that would create an emergency loan program he will present during a special session on Wednesday. The loan would be capped at five-million dollars and hospital administrators would be required to present a business plan to show how the state would recoup funds. The center provides the only ambulance service in the area.
