Wednesday is another busy day at the Capitol, with multiple committee hearings and floor action in both chambers.

The House Education Committee considers changes to high school graduation requirements, including whether sports and activities should count for credit. In the Senate, Health and Human Services reviews bills that would ban kratom and some hemp-derived intoxicants, along with a proposal to create a new oversight group for developmental disability services. The Senate Transportation Committee takes up Department of Transportation legislation involving highways, railroads, and aviation.

Later, Senate committees debate proposals dealing with property taxes, a gold tax bill, campaign donation rules, and public meeting requirements. The Joint Appropriations Committee meets throughout the day to review budgets for Social Services, South Dakota Public Broadcasting, and the state’s technology office.

Both the House and Senate return to the floor for votes on bills addressing property taxes, rental security deposits, and controlled substances.
