(Sturgis, SD) — The Meade County Sheriff’s Office is saying a bond payment scam is on the rise. Deputies are warning that scammers are contacting individuals saying they need to post bond for Meade County jail inmates using a Bitcoin kiosk. They warn the scammers try to rush victims into making payments by creating fear but the only ways to make a bond payments are through the Clerk of Courts Office or at the Meade County Jail. Residents are encouraged to pause and verify claims with the sheriff’s office if they think they could be getting scammed.
