South Dakota lawmakers head into a busy Friday at the Capitol, starting with the governor.

Governor Larry Rhoden holds his weekly legislative press conference, where he’s expected to announce a new bill alongside legislative leaders.

Several committees meet throughout the morning. House State Affairs takes up constitutional and government transparency measures, while the Joint Appropriations Committee begins budget hearings with the Unified Judicial System, followed later by the Attorney General’s Office and the Department of Public Safety.

Other committees review proposals dealing with criminal justice, business regulation, term limits, and federal authority.

Lawmakers return to the House and Senate floors later in the day for votes on elections, public safety, firearms, and education policy, helping set the direction for the next phase of the session.
