South Dakota Legislature reaches its 10th day of the session.

Several high-impact bills are moving Tuesday as the South Dakota Legislature reaches its 10th day of the session.

Lawmakers are taking up a proposal in the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee that would classify cultivated-protein products as adulterated food, a move that could impact emerging food technology and state regulation.

Budget hearings are also underway, with the Joint Committee on Appropriations reviewing spending plans for the Departments of Health, Transportation, and Agriculture and Natural Resources. Those discussions will shape funding for health care, roads, and rural infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the House Local Government Committee is considering bills that would revise open records law and public-meeting notice requirements for political subdivisions.

Later in the day, the House is expected to debate a bill banning paid petition circulators, along with a proposed constitutional amendment that would tighten limits on the use of eminent domain for economic development.

Tuesday marks the 10th day of the Legislature’s scheduled 38-day session.
