(Pierre, SD) — Sponsors of a new Senate bill hope to establish ground rules for building data centers. They are calling it the Data Center Bill of Rights for Citizens after residents have taken action to prevent the massive establishments from coming to the state. Some legislators have gotten on board like Representative Jon Hansen of Dell Rapids who wonders why the richest tech billionaires in the world would need subsidies to build the massive facilities. The legislation would require operators to cover costs for electricity and provide transparency for water usage. There is no timetable on if the bill will get a committee hearing.
