Bill To Ban Cell-Cultured Meat Advances To State House

(Pierre, SD) — A bill to ban cell-cultured meat is moving on to debate in the state House. The bill passed through the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee by a nine-to-three vote. Proponents of the bill worry that health implications from lab-grown meat are still relatively understudied and the process could upend the state livestock industry. The bill would classify the meat as adulterated, which opponents say doesn’t exactly fit the description properly. This is not the first time state lawmakers have proposed bills to restrict development of cell-curated meat.
