Lincoln County Commission Looks To Implement Data Center Moratorium

(Lincoln County, SD) — Lincoln County is looking into a moratorium on data centers being built in the county. Commissioner Joel Arends brought the idea of a one-year moratorium during a meeting on Tuesday. It would allow the public to vocalize concerns and for the commission to perform more research on the construction of the massive AI data centers. The proposal was for facilities that require more than 100 megawatts of electricity, but Arends says he would consider lowering the number to 50. A vote on the moratorium could come as soon as February 24th.
