(Bismarck, ND) — North Dakota’s Legislative Management Committee is hiring outside counsel to represent them in a lawsuit. The lawsuit stems from a controversial term limits resolution that passed during the 2025 session. The lawsuit says a rule passed by the state legislature changes a term limits article in the state Constitution, and articles in the state Constitution can only be changed by a two-thirds vote. Legislative Management discussed legal strategy during a closed-door, executive session on Tuesday and voted unanimously to adopt outside counsel after the meeting. The State Supreme Court hasn’t taken action on the case yet.
