Thursday marks the 12th day of South Dakota’s 38-day legislative session.

Several committees are meeting with a full agenda. Senate Judiciary is considering executive appointments, including the secretary of the Department of Corrections and a member of the Board of Pardons and Paroles. The committee is also hearing a bill addressing assumption of risk at shooting ranges.

In the House, Agriculture is taking up a measure that would require annual groundwater withdrawals to stay within recharge rates, while Health and Human Services is considering a bill on coverage of non-opioid prescription drugs.

Budget work continues as the Joint Committee on Appropriations reviews spending proposals from the Departments of Tourism, Revenue, and Labor and Regulation.

Legislative leaders from both parties are holding their weekly news conferences, followed by the governor’s legislative press conference.

On the floor, the House is set to consider a proposed constitutional amendment that would repeal the requirement to provide expanded Medicaid.

Thursday is also the final day for legislators to submit unlimited bill introductions.
