(Pierre, SD) — A bill to crack down on fake service animals is receiving full support from the state Senate. Lawmakers voted unanimously to not only crack down on fake service animals, but protect the real ones. The bill makes misrepresenting a service animal a Class 2 misdemeanor and punishable for up to 30 days in jail. It also sets standards of what qualifies as a service animal, excluding emotional support animals.
