(Sioux Falls, SD) — The parents of ten-year-old Joel Takenalive are facing charges for child abuse. Juan Barragan and his partner Angela Franco were arrested for abuse or cruelty of a minor older than seven. Takenalive has been placed in state custody. In January, a manhunt was issued for the boy for nearly 23 hours after he left the house wearing just a sweater after an argument about chores. The living conditions of the home were described by law enforcement as “extremely cluttered with only a small walking path” and officers say Takenalive was physically abused by Franco and Barragon.
