(Yankton, SD) — A Yankton man is facing 22 years in prison after a fentanyl overdose death. Investigators said 20-year-old Evan Nelson sold fentanyl to a 15-year-old girl from Vermillion, who was found dead by her mother in her bedroom the next morning. Nelson pleaded guilty to distribution of a controlled substance resulting in death and was sentenced last week. A co-defendant in the case was previously sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in acquiring the fentanyl. Nelson was also ordered to pay nearly nine-thousand dollars in restitution.
