(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota traffic deaths are declining, according to data from the Department of Public Safety. There were 110 fatal crashes last year that led to 123 deaths. It’s a 16-percent decrease in fatalities compared to 2024 and the lowest number of total deaths over the last five years. South Dakota Highway Patrol believes it’s a credit to improved coordinated efforts between law enforcement, safety partners and drivers. Motorcycle deaths also decreased by 30-percent with 25 fatalities in 2025.
