Race For Governor Taking Shape With Release Of Campaign Finances

Pierre capital

(Pierre, SD) — The campaign finance reports for governor candidates are revealing important data. Republican businessman Toby Doeden is reporting just over two-point-one million dollars, the majority of which came from a loan he made to himself. A political science teacher at the University of South Dakota says its not too common to see self-funded campaigns but it could be expected from a prominent businessman. Republican Dusty Johnson, currently serving as South Dakota’s U.S. House Representative, reported a one-point-six-million dollar contribution from his statewide political action committee and several other six-figure contributions. Incumbent Larry Rhoden’s campaign brought in just under 500-thousand dollars while Jon Hansen, currently the state Speaker of the House in Pierre, raised just under 200-thousand.
