PIERRE, S.D. — Thursday’s legislative agenda at the South Dakota Capitol is packed with court, tax, and education bills before shifting to floor debate.
Lawmakers are hearing an anti-SLAPP bill aimed at protecting free speech, along with measures dealing with emergency assistance requirements, property tax appeals, inmate transportation at release, and community safety zones. Tax committees are also considering bills affecting school district levies, tax-increment financing, and tax collection agreements with tribes.
Education bills include changes to special education reserves and the state’s school funding formula, while budget writers continue higher-education funding hearings.
Later, legislative leaders and Gov. Larry Rhoden hold news conferences, and both chambers move to floor debate, with the Senate taking up multiple election-related bills and the House handling reconsideration and consent-calendar items.
