(Bismarck, ND) — Utility regulators are approving an electricity rate increase for Xcel Energy customers. They say its part of a compromise to prevent subsidies from renewable energy projects in Minnesota. Northern State Power Company asked the Public Service Commission to approve a 24-percent increase to residential customers. The company and the commission agreed to an increase of about half that. Overall, it’s an increase of 58 cents from the current interim rate the two sides previously agreed to.
