(Sioux Falls, SD) — South Dakota Cattleman’s Association President Craig Bieber thinks quadrupling Argentine beef imports is, “overboard.” An executive order from President Trump to quadruple beef from Argentina on Friday comes during a time of low cattle inventory and high beef prices in the U.S. Bieber says there are benefits from trading for more beef but he is concerned about food safety. He worries consumer confidence could be shook if there’s an issue with a foreign product. He says there are steps that could be taken to increase inventory like opening more federal land for grazing.
