(Pierre, SD) — The state Senate is giving homeowners with detached garages a break on property taxes. A bill to reclassify detached structures as owner-occupied property passed in the state Senate unanimously. It could provide homeowners with savings of 269-dollars per 100-thousand dollar valuation. The bill now heads to the House Taxation Committee, but a hearing has not yet been scheduled.
