(Minot, ND) — A man will serve seven years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter and tampering charges. Investigators say Johnathan DeCoteau was manipulating a firearm when it went off and killed Dorian Thomas. The judge sentenced DeCoteau to 20 years on the manslaughter charge but DeCoteau will only have to serve five of the 20 years. The judge told Thomas’ family he wished he could do more but he elected to go with the plea agreement decided by the state. Thomas’ father spoke at the sentencing saying, “You killed my son. My son is gone forever. He’s never coming back.”
