PIERRE, S.D. — South Dakota lawmakers are setting the state’s financial course as budget writers adopt revenue targets for the next two fiscal years.
The Joint Committee on Appropriations is finalizing spending limits that will guide all budget decisions for the remainder of the legislative session. Lawmakers are also continuing budget hearings, including proposals for school construction and educator retention.
In other committee action, House lawmakers are considering bills on recalling certain elected officials, limiting residential improvement permits, and expanding access to property tax information.
Later, the Senate will debate a bill dealing with gross receipts and use tax rates, while legislative leaders and Gov. Larry Rhoden hold news conferences.
