Jamestown Reservoir Becoming Popular Crappie Fishing Spot

news generic dakota news network

(Jamestown, ND) — North Dakota’s Jamestown Reservoir is becoming a hot spot for crappie ice fishing. Game and Fish Fisheries Supervisor BJ Kratz says the population of crappie has grown since roughly three-thousand crappie were put in the reservoir over the span of four years. The reservoir’s base of shale, rock and gravel has provided an ideal environment for the fish, along with its high volume of plankton. Kratz says if you want to catch some crappie, you want your line to be a little shallower than you would for walleye or perch. Crappie range from various sizes and can be found as large as 13-to-14 inches.
