(Bismarck, ND) — North Dakota is running out of phone numbers for the 701 area code. The state is one of eleven in the nation that only has one area code and many businesses have used the 701 numbers as part of its branding. The state Public Service Commission says it’s seriously considering the issue and trying to slow down the loss of the phone numbers. Officials had once expected to run out of numbers by 2027 or 2028. They say that exhaustion date is now likely to occur in the first quarter of 2032.
