Governor Rhoden Property Tax Relief Bill Moves Through Senate

(Pierre, SD) — The state Senate is advancing Governor Rhoden’s proposed changes to property taxes. The bill passed out of the Senate on a 20-to-14 vote. It would give counties an option to enact a half-cent sales tax that would cover some property tax fees. State Senator Taffy Howard voted for the bill but said she was concerned the tax break would be funded by tourists. Governor Rhoden celebrated the vote on social media saying the bill is, “one step closer to delivering meaningful relief for South Dakotans.”
