(Canton, SD) — Lincoln County Emergency Management says they believe a fire in Canton started from a lit cigarette. The Canton Volunteer Fire Crew needed assistance from multiple organizations to put out the fire due to 25 mph winds in the area. A neighbor with a skid loader came to help the fire mitigation efforts as well. The fire department is asking residents to be cautious of fire dangers with high winds and current dry conditions in the county.
