South Dakota Native Honored During State Of The Union

(Wilmot, SD) — Former Navy Captain Royce Williams of Wilmot is the newest Medal of Honor recipient. The 100-year-old received the highest military honor in the United States during the State of the Union address on Tuesday. Williams was presented with the medal by First Lady Melania Trump and received a standing ovation for about three minutes. Williams led Navy pilots in a mission during the Korean War that was classified until ten years ago. South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds described Williams as, “a real-life Top Gun and a true American hero.”
