(Williston, ND) — North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources says oil prices could climb higher amid heightened geopolitical tensions. Director Nathan Anderson says he predicts the price could rise between three-to-five dollars a barrel. Anderson says Iran is a top-ten oil producer that can generate up to four-point-five million barrels of oil per day. He says when attacks like this occur historically, the price goes up. North Dakota oil producers had been hoping prices would drop from the 60s to the low 50s per barrel this year but now they could be heading in the opposite direction.
