PIERRE — South Dakota lawmakers return to the Capitol for Day 30 of the legislative session with a full agenda spanning abortion policy, property taxes, education, and election law.
Committees are considering bills requiring prenatal development instruction in schools, changing the legal definition of abortion, and requiring employers to use the federal E-Verify system. Lawmakers are also debating regulations tied to data centers and utility costs.
The House takes up a proposal offering a tax credit for owner-occupied property and another authorizing construction of a trades center at Lake Area Technical College.
In the Senate, members review executive appointments and a measure requiring social media companies to provide users with their collected personal data upon request.
Additional hearings include proof-of-citizenship requirements for voter registration and revisions to the state’s minimum marriage age.
