(Pierre, SD) — The Senate Health and Human Services Committee is passing a bill to require schools to teach pre-birth education. The legislation would require schools to present a three-minute video showing the presence of the brain, heart and other organs from the moment of fertilization until birth. It passed 6-1 in the committee with the lone no vote coming from Democratic Senator Jamie Smith. Opponents of the bill say its a slippery slope to start mandating particular videos in classrooms. The bill will head to the Senate floor next.
